Sixteen Things About Me...

My two darling friends, Helen Hardt and April Vine, both tagged me in this game. Don't worry girls... I'll figure out a way to get ya back! :-D

Anyway, the rules are I'm supposed to tell y'all sixteen things you didn't know about me. Since I'm so chatty, that was kind of hard to come up with, but here they are, in no specific order (and I put it up on Facebook and MySpace as well):

1) I'm allergic to bees. Yup, deathly allergic as a matter of fact. I don't garden (no matter how much I want to) for the mere fact that one sting can send me to the hospital in anaphilaxis (sp?). I carry an EpiPen everywhere I go (an epinephrin auto-injector) and have actually had to use it twice.

2) I have to have ice in my milk. It just can never be cold enough if you ask me, and I think it's a little treat to suck the frozen milk off of the icecubes when I'm done.

3) I am not a morning person, I am mean and cranky and my kids have learned that they need to leave me be for at least an hour after I wake up, otherwise they get Mean Mommy. My hubby on the other hand refuses to remember this one.... he's been smacked more than once when trying to wake me up. You'd think he'd learn!

4) Purple is my absolute favorite color. Okay, you might have known this one, but still. I have purple everything: candles, candleholders, sweaters, purses, sheets, nailpolish... I have yet to find purple shoes that I actually like, but I will walk all the way across a store if I see purple shoes just to look and see if I find ones I like.

5) I am a pack rat. I really don't like to throw things away, and I have to be prodded to give stuff away or sell it. I always think that I'll find a use for it, or someone will want to see it... or something. I'm slowly breaking myself of this habit as I'm seeing a couple of my kids have the same unfortunate bent.

6) If I'm laughing really hard I tend to snort. Yeah, yeah, not ladylike... sue me. My kids don't think they've told a funny joke unless they can get a snort out of mommy. *sigh*

7) I don't drink alcohol. I'll use it for cooking, but that's it. Honestly, I don't need alcohol to dance on the bar... or change my sweater in the middle of a hot club.... and that way I know everyone will get home safely, because I'M driving and I'M sober!

8) I will not put my car in gear unless every single person in the car is wearing a seat belt. I don't care if you don't think they're comfortable, you can walk if you won't wear it in my car. Recently while out on the town with some friends I badgered a cab driver into pulling over until my friend in the back would put his seat belt on... he didn't want to but if he wanted to get to the nightclub ... needless to say, I won that argument and he wouldn't ride in the same cab with me the rest of the night. :-D

9) I have ridden motorcycles my entire life. For some reason this surprises people. My father has ALWAYS had a Harley ever since before I was born. I grew up knowing those bikers you see out and about. And I learned never to judge a book by it's cover... those guys bought me teddy bears and taught me how to change a tire just to mention a few things.

10) My oldest child has a disorder in the Autism spectrum. Life is never dull in our house.

11) I have about 50 pairs of fuzzy socks. You know, those really soft, fuzzy socks you get instead of slippers.... LOVE those! I compulsively buy them whenever I see them. And I wear them all the time.

12) I always sleep with covers... even in the middle of summer here in the desert. I have to have a sheet and blanket and I always tuck them under my feet. Considering how hot my hubby and boys sleep, we always have the air way down anyway... so it's self-preservation.

13) I can't stand for my food to touch on my plate, unless it's supposed to (lasagna, goulash... etc) or if I do it myself. Otherwise, I eat around the food that is touching and give it to my hubby.

14) I know absolutely nothing about football. I like to ask questions, but for some reason my brain just can't hang onto the information. I DO like football movies though, so hubby likes to reference football movies when he's explaining things to me.

15) I only have to go to a place twice (and sometimes only once) and I can get there again from that point on. I may not be able to tell you the streets, but I can get you there if I'm in the car with you.

16) I love to make cards. Birthday, Christmas, Halloween.. Thank you, Screw You... no matter what I LOVE to make cards. I have a decorated lunchbox tin that holds all my cards and whenever we need a card I usually have several made for every occasion. Which reminds me... I'm running low on Thank You cards.

Oy, that was hard... now y'all know just how neurotic I really am! Now I get to tag 16 other people. The problem I ran into was that most of the people I wanted to tag had already been tagged... but I tagged them again. Funny that we all know the same people! LOL So, here's my 16 people (I didn't tag Mysti or Jenny... figured they appreciate that, but they can do it if they want to):

1) Marianne Arkins
2) Judy Thomas
3) Belinda McBride
4) Paige Tyler
5) AJ Llewellyn
6) Devon Gray
7) Catherine Bybee
8) April Vine
9) Julie (you know who you are)
10) Michele O.
11) Briana K.
12) Dave H. (Uncle David)
13) Patti O'Shea
14) Daisy Dexter Dobbs
15) Kealie Frerichs
16) Kealie Flaherty

TAG, Y'all are it now!

Mysti's Meme: Six Things....

Here are the rules:

Link the person who tagged you. (That would be...no one)
Mention the rules in your blog. (Done)
Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours. (only six?)
Tag 6 bloggers by linking them. (consider yourself tagged)
Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger's blogs letting them know they've been tagged. (You comment first, and then I'll visit... how is that for a deal?)

Okay, time for me to spill my guts.

1. When I was pregnant, I would have killed for two things: salt and vinegar potato chips and hot dogs. Considering I seldom eat meat, the hot dog thing in particular was very odd. Even now, though, there are times when my DH will be cooking hot dogs and I HAVE TO HAVE ONE or die!

2. When I make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the peanut butter MUST reach to the edges of the bread or it makes me a little loopy. You people who just smear a little in the middle of your bread, tell me this: how do you live with yourselves??

3. I hate the (non)word -- Snuck. Dear heavens, please, please, please do NOT use this word anywhere in my vicinity. Due to it's common use, it's now listed as an alternative in the dictionary (Bad, bad Webster's caving in to peer pressure), but the past tense of sneak is sneaked. Period.

4. I read the ends of books first. Yes, really. I'm sure I've horrified a great many of you, but that's just how I am. Why bother spending precious time reading if I'm going to be disappointed? Hmmm??? When I go on a trip, I always know what my final destination is. Doesn't ruin the ride there.

5. I eat all my food at room temperature whenever possible. I've even been known to pop a salad into the microwave for 10 or 15 seconds just so it isn't so cold, or add ice to my soup. I have super-sensitive teeth, so anything too hot or cold sends shooting pain into my brain like thousands of tiny daggers. And, yes, I ask for stuff made this way at restaurants, too, when possible. Or, I'll just let my food sit for a bit to either cool off or warm up while I talk with whomever I'm breaking bread.

6. I won't answer the phone if I don't know who is calling. Even before caller ID (which I LOVE), I screened my calls.

And a bonus, because I mis-numbered the first time: I despise channel-surfing. My DH and I seldom watch TV together because he hops all over the place. Even if he's really and truly watching a show, he'll channel flip during commercials which drives me batty because we'll miss a few seconds of the show we were watching... OR... he'll find a show I'd rather watch, and totally get into for about two minutes and then he'll surf away from it! ACK!!!!

What about you? What odd quirks do you have? C'mon... share, kay? And let me know you have in the comments so I can come to your blog and point and laugh.

Mysti's Meme #1

Okay... for the next few weeks I'll be posting Mysti's Meme's so that I can use the majority of my writing juice to finish my story (FBOB). And then polish my story. And submit my story. So, please bear with me... and if you want to play, too, I'd love it! Just leave me a comment and I'll come visit.

Let's begin...

What are you reading right now?

"Dark Highland Fire" by Kendra Leigh Castle.

Longest book you’ve ever read:

"The Stand" by Stephen King... I think. I don't really pay attention to length, but I recall that it was pretty amazingly long. Good... really good... but long. Didn't love the mini-series, though Gary Sinise was perfect in his role. But seriously... Molly Ringwald? Please...

Strangest title of a book that you’ve read:

Dunno... that's tough. How about: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler? That's pretty odd.

Stupidest ending of a book you’ve read:

Is it good that I can't think of one? I can think of endings that really pissed me off, but not any that were just plain stupid.

Which literary character have you related to the most?

Margaret, in "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret."

*G*

Do you prefer fiction or nonfiction?

I read both, but for different reasons. Fiction is for fun, Non-Fiction is for edification.

Did you have a series of children’s/young adult books that you once enjoyed?

LOTS!!! The Prydain Chronicles, The Earthsea Trilogy, The Dark Is Rising, The Chronicles of Narnia, Nancy Drew.... should I stop?

Can you enjoy reading the source book after seeing the screen adaptation?

Not really. I do prefer to read the book first, and can't think of a movie I've seen (based on a book) that I went and read the book after.

Have you ever read a novelization of a movie or TV show?

Nope. Never had the desire to.

Book that "turned you on" the most, erotically speaking:

Um... considering my genre of choice, I don't think I can choose just one. Sorry.

Is there a real-life person that you’ve read more than one book about?

Nope. I've read lots of biographies and auto-biographies, but can't think of anyone I've read more than one book about.

Book that everyone’s read but you:

"Pride and Prejudice" -- seen the movie though, does that count? And, as noted earlier, I don't tend to read the book after I've seen the movie. Bad me. I've been told I can't be a romance writer and not have read that particular book. I haven't read "Wuthering Heights" or "Gone with the Wind" (nor seen that movie), either. Sue me.

Favorite "classic" writer/novelist:

William Shakespeare... man, could he write! And, so clever... I <3 Bill.

Favorite contemporary novelist (let's say 1950s on):

Jenny Crusie. Nora Roberts. Daisy Dexter Dobbs.

Favorite short story writer:

I don't think I could name a short story writer if you covered me in honey and strapped me to an ant hill.

Favorite columnist/journalistic writer:

See above, re: short story writers

Favorite poet:

Generally, I dislike poetry. I'm not deep enough to understand it. Maybe Browning? Or... hey... here's a good poem:

I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

I've heard the author of that particular poem regrets writing it, however.

Favorite guilty pleasure book or series:

Guilty pleasure? No such thing!!!

Favorite book by written by a famous actor or musician:

Don't have a clue. Don't know if I've ever read one...

Author whose work you once enjoyed but no longer do:

Karin Slaughter. Kill off the hero? Um... no... not if you want me to keep reading. Sorry.

Favorite comics/graphic fiction author:

Wendy and Richard Pini for their "Elfquest" series. I don't even know if they still do it, but I was a rabid fan back in the 80s.

Did you read this? Then -- TAG!! You're it!

What Mysti Needs

I was bloghopping (yes, I admit it ... anything to put off fighting with my characters) and saw this interesting blog challenge: Go to Google and type in your name and "needs" and list the five funniest things that show up. Since my brain is pretty much out of original thoughts right now, I thought I'd try this.

1. Mysti needs an Atkins diet buddy

Are you saying I'm fat? Honestly, I'm ... ack, I can't believe I'm admitting this... but I'm forty pounds heavier than I was when I got married twelve years ago. Doing Atkins a few years back got me within spitting distance of my pre-marriage weight... so maybe I do need an Atkins diet buddy...

2. Mysti needs our prayers

Well, yanno... lots of prayers are never a bad thing!

3. Mysti needs a job at the bunny ranch

Is that like Mustang Ranch meets the Playboy mansion? Or...are we talking cute, fluffy bunnies? Either way, I'm rather intrigued...

4. Maybe Mysti needs another friend

Well, heck, you can never have too many friends!

5. Mysti needs to reverse a spell

Maybe THAT'S why I've had trouble writing... someone put a spell on me!!

And, just cuz they're funny, here are a couple more!

6. Mysti needs a chance to explore her other strengths and talents.

Ooh... so, I have an excuse to NOT write! I need to explore my other strengths... yanno, like eating! *G* I mention that because:

7. Mysti needs pie!

Why, yes... yes I do! French silk, preferably. Mmmm....

What about YOU? What do YOU need? If you decide to play, let me know and I'll come visit.
